Hello, DA-land. I'm Rachel, as per the username and profile says.
It seems that DA is becoming my showcase for my various arts and crafts, so I may as well tell you about them and why they're there.
I am, in a nutshell, an eclectic cross culture god-owned and god-spoused pagan. I am Rokkatru, working in many different pantheons outside that first, the Rokkr, and I am also ADF. ADF, for those who are unaware, is Ár nDraíocht Féin, which is gaelic for "Our Own Druidry". It's more my public religious association, but it permeates a huge level of my private religious work. This means, yes, I identify also as a Druid.
Given this, you'll find scattered in my works much that connects, either obviously or not as much so, to my religious and spiritual practice. Most of what I do in that realm is for personal use, such as the statuary I am painting. The rest is on commission or as gifts.
I work in a wide realm of medias.
Photography is a love of mine, and there can be found a large number of my better shots uploaded here.
In the two-dimensional world, painting in Acrylics, charcoals, pastels (usually soft but on occasion oil), pencil and pen sketches are up there also. There are less of them due to a lack of time to produce them, as I'm in the middle of a cross-state move and just came off a job that had me out of the house 11 hours a day, with no energy left to do anything but eat and sleep at the end of the day. I have been known to create other works, but these are my most common. Digital art is not something in my realm of talents, and while I make icons for personal use and on request, they are simple things made by cropping and resizing pictures in MS Paint.
In the 3-D realm, I have a bit more range.
The aforementioned statuary is something I fancy doing, and have permission to post the in progress pictures. I use Citadel model paints, and will seal them with enamel (unsure, at this point, whether or not it will be brushed or sprayed). I adore sculpting in my own right, but I lack the money and supplies for this, for the most part.
I have a range of crafts that I dabble in. Jewelry is one of the most common, seeing as I have the supplies immediately on hand, and you will rarely catch a piece of mine made without stones in it. I refuse to use plastic and almost never use Acrylic pieces. Glass I use in seed beads, and in well made artistic pieces for focus beads and pendants.
Silk painting and bead weaving are two arts that I know and am planning to expand my base in, but which, due to space and funds, will have to wait until further notice.
Garment construction, focusing on historically inspired garments, or historical reproductions, is a passion of mine. I intend at some point in my life to attend college with a Major in History and a Minor in Fashion Design and/or Merchandising to become more practiced in this. I sew mostly for myself as I know my body well, but I can and do take commissions. I have a passion for detail work, which revolves mostly around hand-sewn beadwork. I do NOT embroider, for whatever reason I have never been able to do so well.
I've been known to dabble in miscellaneous crafts, and thus my gallery has an entire folder to itself for that. Currently the only thing in it is a crown of silk flowers, but I have no idea what could randomly end up in there. My imagination is known to run away with itself in odd ways for odd reasons.
I have several tangents I intend to pursue which I currently do not have practiced, which include leatherwork, chainmail, weaving, and some playing with metal clay. These, like many other things that require space and time and money, will have to wait, however.
Summaries given, onto the next branch of things.
I am currently in the process of "do I want prints, or do I not?". Keep an eye on my profile to see whether or not I decide to offer them, and if I do, what of.
*edit* Alright, after much deliberation with my artsy people, I will be offering up prints of select photography shots. I've got to go through my deviations and select what I want to offer up, and then I need to set up the print store, so it'll be a little while. It's not done yet. But keep an eye, they're going up! *endedit*
I will be offering up slots for commission work somewhere around the beginning of December. Currently I am not offering them, as I am in the middle of a move and thus do not have the time or energy available to finish them. Etsy and Artfire shops are also loosely in plans, for selling anything not for commission. Keep an eye for when those open and what they open for as well.
Please keep in mind, if anyone chooses to request commission work ahead of time from me, several things:
-I do not produce low quality work. I use good materials and I do good work to make sure the product I sell you will last you as long as possible. If you want cheap, go to someone who produces cheap work. My prices reflect the quality I produce, and thus they are not the lowest you will find. They will be listed upon commission slot availability.
-Going based on the above, good work takes time. Please be prepared to be patient with me. If you rush me, you lessen what you receive from me. I fully intend to be employed upon finishing my move, and job-hunting itself is a full-time job, so please also take this into consideration.
-Given this, I am not looking to do this casually, I want to get my work out there and I would love to make a living off of this. I require a non-refundable deposit of between thirty and fifty percent depending on the commission in question. This, and all prices are subject to change.
-I will give any customer of mine a list of disclaimers, warnings, and instructions for care. I will also include, in case contents are desired, the list of materials used. I am not responsible for anything done to the item in question if the warnings, instructions, and disclaimers are not followed, not even if you didn't read it. I will offer refunds, excluding deposit and within reason, for customers who are unsatisfied with my products or service. But please don't try and get your money back if you were duly warned, or if you ignored said warning.
-I have mentioned that I am not accepting commission slots, but if you wish to reserve a spot before they open, feel free to talk with me about it. Just keep in mind that all my standards apply from the moment I actively take a commission. Reserving one ahead of time does NOT mean that you will get it faster once I start work.
Last but not least, a request, be that for my commissions or for my sites: Please do not flame me. I don't expect you to follow my beliefs or absolutely adore my rules, but please don't abuse me for it and please don't impress upon me your beliefs or rules. I state mine, but I do not impress them, I wouldn't do it to you. Be polite, or you remove yourself from my business. I won't cater to trolls.
All that being said, lovely to meet you all, and looking forward to whatever interactions we have. :)
